Sexual Assault

On Saturday August 23, 2014, a female student reported to ASU Police that she was sexually assaulted on Sunday August 17, 2014 by a male acquaintance in a residence hall on the west side of campus.

Anyone with information regarding a crime is encouraged to call the ASU Police Department at 262-2150, or you may also report crimes anonymously at http://www.police.appstate.edu/crime-tip-submission-form .

Tips for keeping safe:

  • Recognize that your sexual needs do not give you the right to do whatever you want. Any sexual activity should be mutually desired and totally consensual.
  • Be careful when inviting someone into your room/apartment or when going into someone else's room/apartment, especially after a night of partying where alcohol has been consumed.  This is where and when many sexual assaults occur.
  • Trust your instincts. If you don’t feel comfortable in a situation, leave.
  • Do not hesitate to call Police if you feel you are in an uncomfortable
    situation.

Notification of a serious crime to the campus community is required by federal law.
