Safety Alert: Sexual Battery, Assault on a Female
On Sept. 26, 2016 at approximately 6:00 p.m., a female student reported to University Police that an unknown male physically assaulted her in a residence hall parking lot on campus. The incident reportedly occurred around 5:30 p.m. after she utilized an informal rideshare service from the unknown male (beeper).
University Police, with the assistance of Watauga County Sheriff’s officers, arrested and charged Samuel Wayne Grubbs with Sexual Battery, Assault on a Female, and Driving While License Revoked. Grubbs was also charged with Second Degree Trespass from a Sept. 2, 2016 larceny incident, which also took place on campus. Grubbs was placed in the Watauga County Detention Facility under a $3,500 secured bond, and is banned from all university property.
Grubbs has no affiliation with Appalachian State University.
The university is providing resources and support to assist the student who reported this incident, and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community.
